Ο δεξιοτέχνης του βιμπραφώνου Douglas Walter επισκέπτεται την Αθήνα για μια και μοναδική εμφάνιση στην Ελληνοαμερικανική Ένωση και θα ερμηνεύσει γνωστές τζαζ συνθέσεις, αλλά και δικά του έργα. Μαζί του θα εμφανιστούν οι Αλέξανδρος Χρηστίδης (κρουστά & ντραμς) και Γιώργος Κωστόπουλος (κοντραμπάσο).

Ο Douglas Walter είναι καθηγητής κρουστών στο τμήμα τζαζ του University of Colorado. Είναι ο μοναδικός μουσικός μαρίμπας και βιμπραφώνου που έχει λάβει το πρώτο βραβείο στον διαγωνισμό «Concert Artists Guild Competition» στη Νέα Υόρκη. Έχει δώσει πάνω από 300 ρεσιτάλ στην Αμερική και την Ευρώπη. Είναι ο κορυφαίος των κρουστών στις ορχήστρες Boulder Philharmonic, Colorado Music Festival και Sunriver Music Festival Orchestras. Έχει πλούσια τζαζ δισκογραφική παρουσία και είναι κάτοχος τεσσάρων πανεπιστημιακών τίτλων.

Η συναυλία πραγματοποιείται σε συνεργασία με το Μουσικό Τμήμα του Hellenic American University Inc.

Douglas Walter (percussion)

Douglas Walter is Professor of Percussion at the University of Colorado College of Music, and is the only marimba and vibraphone artist to have won First Prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition in NYC[citation needed].

He has performed over 300 solo recitals and concerts in forty states, Canada, Brazil and eight countries in Europe, in addition to international conventions of the Percussive Arts Society, International Association of Jazz Educators and MENC.

Orchestral experience

An accomplished orchestral musician, Dr. Walter has performed with the Dallas, Fort Worth, Oregon, Santa Fe Opera, Colorado Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestras. He is Principal with the Boulder Philharmonic, and Sunriver Music Festival Orchestras. He has performed as a member of the percussion section of the Colorado Ballet Orchestra for 15 years. He played with the Colorado Music Festival for 16 years, 10 as Principal Percussionist.

He has toured for 21 years with the Westminster Brass.

Jazz experience

As a jazz musician he has recorded (on drum set and vibes) with Michael Pagàn, the UNT 1:00 Lab Band, the Modest Jazz Trio, the Lawless Percussion and Jazz Ensemble, The CU Jazz Asylum Faculty Quintet, the DAD Trio and the Doug Walter Vibraphone Trio.

Education

Doctor Walter holds a dual BM degree from North Texas State University, summa cum laude, two Masters degrees (orchestral conducting and percussion) from the University of Michigan and a DMA degree in Percussion Performance from Temple University, where he studied with Alan Abel and David Samuels.

Dr. Walter's compositions are published by Dutch Music Partners, and Alfred. He endorses Encore Mallets, Sabian Cymbals and Yamaha Mallet Instruments
